Council membership is attainable by specialized retirement plan advisors who meet specific criteria, subject to a rigorous review process. Advisors interested in joining the Council must be recommended by an active member and submit their application through the Council's Executive Director. Applicants are interviewed to verify credentials, to gain a full understanding of the scope of the retirement plan services they provide, and to gauge their level of interest in active membership. Applications for terms starting January 1, 2013 were open July and August, 2012; and ultimately approved by the Executive Board. Memberships are for a three-year term.

The Retirement Advisor Council is a national organization advocating for successful qualified plan and participant retirement outcomes through the collaborative efforts of experienced, qualified retirement plan advisors, investment firms and asset managers, and defined contribution plan service providers.
The Council is comprised of 75 advisors recognized for their stature in the industry, leaders of the retirement plan practice at major advisory and broker/dealer firms, and a select group of service providers and investment management firms.
